Interestingly, China is off course a big market for many things but represents a very small fraction of Apple IOS revenues on iTunes. currently 3%.
At the same time, free download on the same iTunes rank China second, just after the US, with 13% of download on iTunes.
Apple tries to move there to increase revenues by reducing hacking by allowing people to use local cards and local banks. Chinese previously had to use international cards and pay commissions to use iTunes.
Another interesting fact: sales of hardware from Apple in China have grown by 600% from 2010 to 2011, from 1.5 b$ to 8.8 b$ . Yes, you read it correctly.
You can now understand why they’re trying to monetize their iTunes there as it could definitely be a huge growing market for them.
