Tablet Market figures for Q4 2011

Tablet Market figures for Q4 2011

Here is an interesting story. The data is coming from iSupply and shows a few things:

– Apple is leading the market both in volume and number, after 2 years since the first iPad launch. It’s still a 67% growth from one quarter to the other, and a huge 18 Millions iPad sold for Q4 2011. Impressive, congratulation Apple, it definitely helps the bottom line.

– Samsung is loosing ground in terms of Market share, at less than 5% on the quarter, compared to 8% at previous quarter. On 1.3 million units sold.

– But surprisingly, in terms of growth Amazon and Barnes and Nobles are running fast and getting market share on Apple and Samsung, Amazon selling 3.9 million units in the first quarter of existence of its product, Barnes and Noble 1.3 millions unit.

I think we’re definitely looking at the structuration of a tablet market that is getting mature and new entrants are targeting the entry-level market in a way Samsung does not, while Apple clearly position itself in the upper market as i has always done for its products.

The question here is: where does Samsung really belongs (in terms of market perception) and will Amazon new product will squeeze them and force them to price drop to keep their market share ?

With iPad 3 foreseen for Feb 2012, Apple is still running the game at this time to maintain it’s market share.
